Makwanpur bus accident: Police file murder case against driver

HETAUDA, NOV 03 - Police on Monday filed a case of murder against Rakesh Singh Tamang, the driver of Subha Shree Deluxe bus, whose reckless driving cost ten lives in an accident along the East-West Highway in Makwanpur district on Saturday morning.

Police claim that the Biratnagar-bound Subha Shree Deluxe bus (Na 4 Kha 5448) collided head-on with Metro Deluxe (Na 5 Kha 4841) en route to Kathmandu from Ilam because of Tamang’s reckless driving.

Tamang, 31, is a resident of Hetauda Municipality-15.  He will face jail term of 2-10 years, as demanded by the police, if proven guilty.

Ten persons, including a Russian national, were killed and dozens were injured when two passenger buses collided at Basamadi in Hetauda of Makwanpur district early Saturday morning.

Tamang was later arrested on the same day from Hetauda-9. Police claim that the driver was still stinking of alcohol when he was arrested in the evening. Police has also been claiming that Tamang had consumed alcohol, during meal break, at Ramnagar in Chitwan on the day of accident.

Meanwhile, the Makwanpur District Court has remanded Tamang into seven more days of custody for further investigation. Based on the statements of the passengers of the bus, the injured and the nature of the accident, police believe that the accident was a result of the driver’s negligence.according to ekantipur.
